Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers received the relatives of the victims of the Kuluhun tragedy

The Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães, received the relatives of the victims of the Kuluhun tragedy on July10, 2020, at the Government Palace in Dili.

During the meeting the Minister heard the concerns and difficulties felt by the relatives of the three young people, who died in the early hours of November 18, 2019, at a party in the Kuluhun neighborhood of Dili, shot by off-duty officers of the National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL). Five people were injured in this incident.

The two officers responsible for the shooting were sentenced to 20 and 25 years in prison for three counts of murder and five counts of attempted murder, on March 27.

The Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers lamented the death of the three young people and said that he will facilitate coordination with the Prime Minister and the relevant Ministries, namely the Ministry of Social Security and Inclusion, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of the Interior, in order to find a solution to overcome the situation and solve the difficulties of the families of the victims of the Kuluhun tragedy.
