Secretary of State for Livestock Appears in a New Episode of the “Página do Governo” TV Show

During the interview, topics discussed included the Government’s vision for the development of the livestock sector, the expansion of animal production, improvements in animal health and welfare, food security, and the contribution of livestock farming to the economic and social development of rural communities.

The discussion also focused on ongoing measures to support producers, the control and prevention of animal diseases, the management of quarantine and animal health issues, the promotion of the livestock industry, the strengthening of cooperative production and marketing systems, and coordination among the various public and private institutions involved in the sector. Other issues discussed included land use for agricultural and livestock production and the implementation of livestock development programmes throughout the country. The discussion also addressed the development of domestic milk production and its potential contribution to improving child nutrition, including the incorporation of locally produced milk into school meal programs.

The Secretary of State for Livestock is responsible for assisting the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Forests in defining, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating public policies for the livestock sector, with a view to promoting and overseeing animal production and health, developing the livestock industry, and implementing the measures necessary for the sector’s sustainable growth.

Organised by the Office of the Government Spokesperson and led by Agio Pereira, Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the “Government Page” TV show is produced in partnership with Radio and Television of Timor-Leste (RTTL) and national media outlets to strengthen government transparency, accountability, and citizens’ access to information on the Executive Branch’s key decisions and policies.

“Government Page” TV show, hosted by Nélia Chaves and produced by Ika Moniz, provides a platform for institutional dialogue centred on the public interest. The programme, produced by RTTL, also receives technical support from the communications teams of the Office of the Prime Minister, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and the office of the government official being interviewed.

The episode featuring the Secretary of State for Livestock will air shortly on RTTL and across social media.
