The authorities have already captured 13 of the 24 inmates that evaded, on Sunday, November 3rd, from the Prison Facility of Becora. The search operations of the remaining 11 fugitives continue, all over the territory, in an action gathering the National Police of Timor-Leste (NPTL) and FALINTIL – Defense Forces of Timor-Leste (F-DFTL).
The Ministry of Justice made an appeal, this Tuesday, November 5th, to the population in order to cooperate with the authorities, providing information on the whereabouts of the 11 fugitives. To these, they asked to turn themselves in, in a three-day period, thus avoiding charges on a new crime.
The escape of the 24 prisoners occurred around 10 o’clock, on Sunday morning, after the celebration of the Mass, which is a regular activity in the Prison Facility of Becora. Two prison officers got injured, while trying to arrest the fugitives. Besides the aggressions, the fugitives destroyed computer equipment and the windows of the computer ward, located in the western part of the building, from where they escaped.
Apart from the search operations, authorities are investigating the event, however guaranteeing that this occasional situation does not jeopardize the safety of the Country.
