The Ministry of Justice, through the National Committee on the Rights of the Child, organized an awareness action on the issue of children trafficking, on October 8th, at Caicoli’s Legal Training Centre, in Dili, for about 300 Pre-Secondary and Secondary students. The aim of this action is alerting participants for the dangers of human trafficking and raise awareness on ways of prevention.
The Minister of Justice, Dionísio Babo, considers that this “is a very important issue for the country, therefore the Government has been organizing these raising awareness actions, involving children and young people, so they can be aware. The dealers lure children, boys and girls still in school. I ask all of you to respect your teachers and your parents during school and at home. It is not enough to know only the rights, must also meet the duties. “
The National Commissioner for the Rights of the Child, Adalgiza Ximenes, called on rulers, community leaders, PNTL and community in general, to pay attention to children.
This awareness action had also the presence of UNICEF’s representatives in Timor-Leste and teachers.
