On July 15th, the State Secretariat for Security (SSS), held a one-day seminar at the PNTL Training Centre in Comoro, to discuss the proposed strategic vision of the National Police of Timor-Leste (NPTL) for 2014-2018, under the theme, “With a strategic vision, we shall progress into the future and towards the institution´s objective”.
The Prime Minister and Minister of Defense and Security, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, recalled that the power over security is the competence of PNTL and that its members have the duty to practice good behavior within the community. “If the Institution is to progress, good behavior has to exist. PNTL should safeguard culture, respect and obey the Law”.
Xanana Gusmão appealed to the police officers to maintain a good collaboration among its members and ensure unity in the institution.
During the debate about the proposal, the Commander General of PNTL, Commissioner Longuinhos Monteiro, referred to the short-term strategic vision and PNTL’s objective: “The everyday task of the National Police of Timor-Leste is to ensure the institutional rules and guarantee the safety of the population”.
In addition to the Secretary of State for Security, Francisco Guterres, the seminar was attended by the Secretary of State for Defense, Júlio Tómas Pinto, the F-FDTL General Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Filomeno Paixão, the General Director of SES, Guilhermina Ribeiro, the district commanders and the PNTL officers.
