The Government of Timor-Leste, through the Ministry of Finance, organized a meeting with the Development Partners, under the subject: “Operationalizing the Strategic Development Plan for more effective results”, last June 19th and 20th, at Dili’s Convention Centre.
The Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, in his speech, stated that “The 5th Constitutional Government has drawn, for its 5 year’ term, the big lines to be accomplished on the Strategic Development Plan, which, by itself, will motivate the development of activities around gradual reduction, aiming poverty’s total eradication, at mid-term”.
Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão highlighted that “We want to invest in a new participation of our country in the international system, in particular by the adherence to other multilateral spheres of debate and decision. We also want to actively contribute to the improvement of internacional policies around aid and conflict resolution, through dialogue forums, such as ‘g7+’, which we are proud to lead. We also realize that inflation will always be a constant challenge to our economic growth, demanding considerable public investment”.
The President of the Republic, Taur Matan Ruak, referred “It is positive to see the Millennium Development Goals included in our common methodology. Although in many countries, including Timor-Leste, that goal’s results might not be totally achieved, that is not deterrent for us to move forward, even if, until 2015, on our way to make it real and I am certain that the work on this meeting will bring important contributes to help us overcome these new challenges and deepen our joint work which will contribute to quickly achieving our goals”.
In the end of the meeting, the more than 350 participants, national and international, endorsed the “Compromise to Operationalizing the Strategic Development Plan”.
