SoSPE organised Seminar on the CEDAW Committee Report

The Secretariat of State for Promotion of Equality (SoSPE), together with UN Women, organised a consultation seminar on CEDAW Committee. The seminar took place on 13 and 14 March 2013 at Delta Nova Conference Hall.

At the opening session, the Secretary of State for Promotion of Equality, Idelta Maria Rodrigues, stated that “we organised this consultation with the objective of collecting ideas from civil society which will enable to reinforce and complete the second and the third reports, still under preparation, so that they are sent to CEDAW Committee”.

“This report has a specific character, and the participation of all ministries is of great importance. The responsibility over the issues to be presented by the CEDAW Committee does not belong to SEPI alone, but to each and every ministry, for there are recommendations of a general and specific nature made to the Timorese State. We are making reference to what we have already accomplished and to what remains to be accomplished, as is the case of the report on the situation of the women in Timor-Leste”, Idelta Rodrigues stressed.

In addition to the Secretary of State for Promotion of Geder Equality, also in attendance were the Deputy Provedor for Justice and Human Rights, Silvério Pinto, and the Director-Generals of each ministry.
