Press Release

Meeting of the Council of Ministers on December 19, 2012

The V Constitutional Government met on Wednesday, December 19, 2012, in the training room of the Ministry of Finance, in Díli, and approved the following:

1. Government Resolution approving the renewal of the suspension of the practice of all activities of Martial Arts groups

This legislation renews the Government Resolution no. No. 35/2011, of 23 December, which suspended authorisation of the practice of all activities of Martial Arts groups, for one year.

This renewal of the suspension is on the grounds that some citizens may cause disturbances and commit crimes and violence in Díli, as well as in the districts, through Martial Arts groups.

The decision also takes account of the occurrence of riots and violence between groups of young Timorese students outside Timor-Leste, particularly in Indonesia (Bali, Yogyakarta and Surabaya).

Therefore, the Council of Ministers decided to extend the period of suspension of activities of Martial Arts groups for one year.

Also considered by the Council of Ministers:

1. Closure of the financial year of 2012

The Government, together with the directors of finance of the all ministries, discussed the closure of the financial year of 2012, as well as the need to streamline payment procedures for expenses planned for this year.
