The Secretary of State for the Promotion of Equality, Idelta Maria Rodrigues, signed on 5 October 2012 in Jakarta, Indonesia, a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indonesian Government, represented by the Minister of Gender Training and Child Protection, Linda Amalia Sari Gumelar.
Through this memorandum of understanding the two Governments agreed on measures for the development of cooperation in the area of empowerment of women and promotion of gender equality, in the area of institutional capacity building and projection, and also the development of a capacity building program for women and the promotion of gender equality.
The Secretary of State Idelta Rodrigues stressed that this memorandum of understanding reinforces the growing cooperation with Indonesia in the area of promotion of equality, through the sharing of experiences and knowledge. Will also develop the capacity and the political capacity and the organization of activities involving the Indonesian Ministry of Gender Training and Child Protection, the University of Indonesia (UI) in Jakarta, the Gajah Mada University (UGM) of Yojakarta, the Secretary of State for the Promotion Equality and the National University of Timor-Leste (UNTL), whuch already has its Center for Gender Studies.
For the implementation of this Memorandum of Understanding a joint working group will be created, consisting of relevant elements of SEPI and of the Indonesian Ministry of Gender Training and Child Protection. According to the Memorandum of Understanding, the group should, for now, develop the plan, define the procedures and present a program. It should also monitor and evaluate the implementation of this project, sending reports to SEPI, the Indonesian Ministry and the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation of the Republic of Indonesia and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.
