Timor-Leste hosts the ICAPP-CAPDI Joint Conference on Peace and Reconciliation in Asia
Promoting Reconciliation: Quest for Peace and Prosperity in Asia” is the motto of the ICAPP-CAPDI Joint Conference on Peace and Reconciliation in Asia to be held in the Díli Convention Center, on April 25 – 26, 2012.
Hosted by the Government of Timor-Leste and organized by the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) and Centrist Asia Pacific Democrats International (CAPDI), this international conference will be officially opened by the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, H.E Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, followed by a Keynote Speech by the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste and Nobel Peace Prize, H.E. Dr. José Ramos-Horta. The opening ceremony will also include the participation of H.E. Jose de Venecia Jr., former Philippines Speaker of the House and Founding Chairman of ICAPP and Founding President of CAPDI, and H.E. Sok An, Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia.
The two days Conference will have four sessions.
On April 25, Wednesday, after the official opening scheduled for 9 am, the first session on “Peace and Reconciliation in Asia (Timor-Leste Experience)”, will be presented by H.E. Maria Domingas Alves, Minister of Social Solidarity of Timor-Leste. The second session will take place after lunch, on “Peace and Reconciliation in Asia (Cambodian Experience)”, presented by Sok An, Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia, Senior Vice President of CAPDI and Member of the ICAPP Standing Committee.
On April 26, Thursday, the third session will start at 9 am, on “Management of Natural Resources for Conflict Prevention”. The fourth session on “Climate Change and Natural Disasters, Opportunities for Conflict Resolution”, will be presented by Jing Min-jun, Director General of the International Eco-Safety Cooperative Organization (IESCO), and by Sr. Jacinto Rigoberto Gomes de Deus Secretary of State for Social Assistance and Natural Disasters of Timor-Leste.
At the closing ceremony, led by the Prime Minister, H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão and after the presentation of the report on the results of the conference, the adoption of the Timor-Leste Declaration will take place. Before the press conference, scheduled for 5 pm, Chung Eui-yong, Co-Chairman of Standing Committee and Secretary General of the ICAPP Secretariat will make the closing remarks of the event.
