Grant of day-off February 22, 2012

The IV Constitutional Government of Timor-Leste decided to grant day-off on February 22, all day, to all employees and agents of the ministries or departments depending on them, as well as institutes and organizations included in indirect State administration. This decision is based on the Law n.^o 10/2005 from August 10, which determines that the national holidays, the official commemorative dates and days-off.

Among the official commemorative dates is Ash Wednesday, which each year has a variable date. The Ash Wednesday is one of the solemnities that is of great importance for the Christian Community: it is the first day of Lent in the catholic calendar that occurs forty days before Easter and this year corresponds to the next Wednesday, February 22, by which means the Government grants day-off throughout the day.
