The Ministry of Social Solidarity (MoSS), through the Secretariat of State for Natural Disaster, celebrated on October 13, the International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction, with the theme “Children and Youth are partners in natural disaster risk reduction”.

The Minister of Social Solidarity, Maria Domingas Fernandes Alves, said in her speech that “the celebration of the International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction aims to reduce this type of risk in Timor-Leste. And because our Nation is a part of the world, we do not want to let this opportunity pass, giving it special attention”.

The Minister also stressed that “this celebration allows children and young people to have access to knowledge through the institutions that disseminate concrete information in the prevention of natural disasters”.

Present at the celebration were the Minister of Social Solidarity, Maria Domingas Fernandes Alves, the Rector of UNTL, Aurélio Guterres, the Red Cross of Timor-Leste, Save the Children, UNDP, TROCAIRE, CRC as well as students of the Faculty of Economics from UNTL.
