On October 3 last, the Secretariat of State of Professional Training and Employment (SoSPTE), sent fifty Timorese to participate in the basic training course on maritime issues. This training has the duration of one month and will be carried out in Jakarta, Indonesia
“The investment in the maritime area will provide, in the future, a major advantage in the development and protection of marine resources, especially in the South Coast. Currently there is still no work space with a sustainable characterisic, but in the future the South Coast will need a large number of human resources to meet the needs of the industrial market”, said the Secretary of State, Bendito Freitas.
According to the Strategic Development Plan, the SoSPTE, in collaboration with the Secretariat of State of Natural Resources (SoSNR), will create a Polytechnic School in the Covalima district that specializes in the maritime area. Thus, if there is a good use of this training, those being trained now will become the course trainers with expertise in the maritime area.
This program began in 2009, with the sending of 10 students to a course in the same area, the result of a partnership between SoSPTE, SoSNR and ILO (International Labour Organization).
