Strategic Development Plan (SDP) approved by Parliament

On Monday, July 11, 2011, the Strategic Development Plan (SDP) was approved in the National Parliament with 38 votes.

“This SDP reflects a critical review of the National Development Plan launched in 2002. This review enabled us to understand the evolution of our State and Nation building process” said Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão.

Xanana Gusmão said that “the NSDP in 2002 opened the way to review this SDP since there was no review of the 2002 NSDP. The IV Constitutional Government’s program, approved by the National Parliament in September 2007, committed to submit an SDP until the end of its legislature. “

The Prime Minister also added that the 2020 vision has the same relevance as in 2001, a vision that the Strategic Development Plan seeks to achieve by 2030, so is the will of all with regards to:

- Timor-Leste manages to achieve being a democratic and prosperous society, with sufficient food, shelter and clothing for all;

- Education with quality and long lived healthy people so they can participate actively in the economic, social and political development, promoting social equality and national unity;

 

- End with the isolation of populations and the separation of the other members of society, since roads, transport, electricity and communications will be able to connect the villages to the regions and to the rest of the country;

- Increase employment and production in all sectors of agriculture, fisheries and forestry;

- Improve living standards and employment to all Timorese.

O PED cobrirá três áreas essenciais: o Capital Social, as Infra-Estruturas e o Desenvolvimento Económico.

The SDP will cover three key areas: Social Capital, Infrastructure and Economic Development.

The Social Capital intends that the people is healthy, with energy and dynamism to be able to participate actively in the development of the country, from villages to sucos and on to the municipalities, as it happens in the world, from America to Africa and Asia to Europe.

In the infrastructure area, , the goals to be achieved and the deadlines to be met were established in the SDP, especially with regard to roads and bridges, potable water and sanitation, electricity, port and airport, as well as in the telecommunications sector.
