The Secretary of State for Defence, Júlio Tomás Pinto and the Chief of the Defense Force, Major General Taur Matan Ruak, attended the 10th High Level Summit on Security in Asia, organized by the International Institute for Strategic Studies on the Safety of ASIA (known as Shangri-La Dialogue). The event was held in Singapore from 3 to 5 June 2011, and joined 27 countries from the Asia Pacific region and partners, to discuss important issues related to regional security in Asia-Pacific, as well as to exchange views on regional security challenges.
Major General Taur Matan Ruak and Admiral Robero F. Willard, Commander of the U.S. and Pacific Command signed a Program of Technical Cooperation for the Defense.
The Timor-Leste delegation also had the presence of the Timor-Leste Ambassador in Singapore, Roberto Soares, and two officers of the Falintil-Timor-Leste Defence Forces (F-FDTL).
