The third episode of the “Government Page” program was recorded today, March 14th, 2025, an initiative led by the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and Government Spokesperson, Agio Pereira, in collaboration with Radio and Television of Timor-Leste (RTTL). In this edition, the guest was the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, who addressed key issues in the country’s foreign policy and Timor-Leste’s journey towards full membership of ASEAN.
The interview, conducted by presenter Nélia Chaves and executive production by Ika Moniz, took place at the Government Palace and had the technical support of the media teams from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. During the session, Minister Bendito dos Santos Freitas highlighted the Ministry’s achievements in strengthening bilateral and multilateral diplomatic relations, in line with the strategic priorities of the IX Constitutional Government.
Among the topics discussed were the progress made in the process of joining ASEAN and the challenges the country faces in meeting the requirements set out in the organization’s roadmap. The Minister also explained the government’s initiatives to expand Timorese diplomatic presence around the world and strengthen strategic partnerships with countries such as Australia, Indonesia and Portugal.
Another highlight was Timor-Leste role in multilateral forums and the benefits resulting from the country’s participation in international organizations. The Minister also mentioned the Executive’s efforts to improve consular services and ensure better service for Timorese citizens living abroad.
The “Government Page” is an institutional communication space that aims to bring the Executive closer to the population by ensuring transparency and accountability on public policies and government programs.
