The Ministry of Tourism, Commerce and Industry, Gil da Costa Alves, and the National Director for Tourism in Timor-Leste, José Dias Quintas, in representation of the Timor-Leste Government, participated in the Tourism International Conference, that was carried out from 4th to 6th of October in the Kinabalau city, Sabah, Malaysia.
This conference, which joined 90 countries, had the objective of finding the means that would make the wisdom and knowledge about the industry and tourism possible in each country and develop it in the best way. The Conference’s focus was product development as a driver of tourism, market strategy to guarantee that the private and public sectors benefit from tourism’s potential, and successful strategies from organizations connected to this area.
The main theme discussed was, among others, “Mega Tendencies and Innovations”, where specialists spoke from the point of view of tourism tendencies to understanding about the success factors of touristic products.
Gil da Costa Alves and José Dias Quintas also met with the Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Datuk Seri Dr. Ng Yen Yen, where the meeting theme was centred on Human Resources development, Technical Assistance and the Foreign Investment in the tourism sector.
The Minister of Tourism, Commerce and Industry, Gil da Costa Alves, also had the opportunity to meet with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai, who said was was available to give support to Timor-Leste in organizing, an international conference about tourism development next year.
