Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Culture and the Presidency of the Republic organise Science, Technology and Innovation exhibition

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Culture, in collaboration with the Presidency of the Republic, held the Sci-Tech EXPO 2024 on November 15th and 16th on the grounds of the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace. The initiative, which was part of Timor-Leste’s Tourism Promotion Programme, was themed “Science, Technology and Innovation: The Path to Transformation and Sustainable Development in Timor-Leste” and was officially opened by the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta.

At the opening ceremony, the President of the Republic addressed a message “to the students and young people of Timor-Leste” to “focus [their] studies on the areas of science, technology and innovation, to develop creative ideas that [will] allow [them] to contribute to the development process of our country”.

The Head of State also emphasised the impact of Sci-Tech EXPO 2024 because “this exhibition represents more than just a display of technology”, as it embodies our nation’s commitment to embracing innovation as a catalyst for sustainable development”. Thirty-six exhibitors, including higher education institutions, public and international agencies, and technology companies, participated in the event. The programme included a higher education fair, presentations of innovative projects, academic competitions, cultural activities, and an international seminar to share experiences and ideas for scientific and technological advancement.
