TIMOR GAP, E.P., the public company responsible for managing Timor-Leste’s petroleum resources, participated as an observer in the 49th Council Meeting of the ASEAN Council on Petroleum (ASCOPE), which took place from October 1st to 3rd 2024 at the Petronas Leadership Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This meeting brought together the main national oil companies from ASEAN countries, creating a relevant platform for discussions on energy co-operation and sustainable practices in the sector.
Under the theme ‘Bridging the energy gap: Ensuring security through interconnectivity’, the 49th ASCOPE Council Meeting focussed on promoting regional energy cooperation with the aim of strengthening energy security and sustainability. During the event, TIMOR GAP held bilateral meetings with strategic partners in the region, such as Petronas and PetroVietnam, to strengthen existing relations and promote new partnerships for collaboration in the energy sector.
The agenda included a series of activities, such as task force working sessions, B2B meetings, high-level discussions between Executive Directors, the launch of the Methane Leadership Programme (MLP) 2.0, and a technical seminar focused on new technologies for the energy transition. These moments provided the opportunity for relevant exchanges on energy security, clean energy technologies and strategies for tackling the region’s common challenges.
Created in 2011, TIMOR GAP’s mission is to represent the Government of Timor-Leste in the development of the oil and gas sector, through strategic onshore and offshore investments, thus contributing to the country’s economic growth and its integration into the regional energy community.
