On May 10th, 2024, Timor-Leste participated in the 30th ASEAN-China Senior Officials Consultation meeting, which was held at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta. 
During the meeting, developments in the relationship between ASEAN and China were analysed, and discussions on the direction of the future ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, as well as regional and international issues, were held. 
As an observer country of the organisation, Timor-Leste had the opportunity to make some observations and expressed its appreciation for the advances in the cooperation between ASEAN and China in the various areas and initiatives discussed. The national delegation also emphasised the value Timor-Leste places on all forms of cooperation in the three pillars of ASEAN and related areas and expressed its desire to contribute to and participate in these cooperation efforts and initiatives in the future. 
Khin Thidar Aye, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, and Sun Weidong, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, co-chaired the meeting. Several leaders of the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting (SOM), members of the ASEAN Secretariat, and Timor-Leste as an observer were also present. The Timor-Leste delegation was led by Elisa da Silva, Director-General for ASEAN Affairs, accompanied by Counsellor Crisogno de Araújo and ASEAN Liaison Officer Ivan Alves.
