Timor-Leste attended the 16th ASEAN Political-Security Community Coordination Conference (16th ASCCO), held at the ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta on May 9th, 2024.
The meeting’s primary aim was to analyse the implementation of the Action Plan for the ASEAN Political and Security Community until 2025, addressing cross-cutting issues within ASEAN.
During the conference, Timor-Leste emphasised the crucial role played by the ASEAN Political-Security Community in promoting dialogue, cooperation and stability in the region. The country expressed its gratitude to the ASEAN Secretariat for sharing information on Timor-Leste’s progress in implementing the action plan and thanked all ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat for supporting its full membership status in ASEAN.
ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) leaders, APSC sectoral bodies and associated entities attended the meeting. Mrs Elisa Maria da Silva, Director General for ASEAN Affairs, led the Timor-Leste delegation, accompanied by Natércia Coelho, Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to the ASEAN Mission in Jakarta, Counsellor Crisogno de Araujo, and Ivan Alves, ASEAN Liaison Officer.
