Ministry of Education will launch second phase of exams for the Teacher Candidates Pool to promote the quality of national education

At its meeting on April 17th, 2024, the Council of Ministers expressed its positive assessment of the second phase of the examination for the Teacher Candidates Pool, following the presentation of the results of the first phase by the Minister of Education, Dulce de Jesus Soares. This measure, implemented by the Ministry of Education, has the theme “Together We Build Our Nation, Through Quality Education”.  Ministry of Education will launch second phase of exams for the Teacher Candidates Pool to promote the quality of national education

The first phase of the electronic, written exams for the Teacher Candidates Pool occurred between March 15th and April 16th, 2024. The aim was to select candidates to fill a total of 2,400 vacancies in a Pool of candidates, from which future teachers can be recruited quickly since they have already demonstrated that they meet the requirements demanded by law.

Of the 111273 exams taken, 568 passed. A second phase of exams will be held to fill the remaining vacancies, totalling 2400.

At the opening ceremony of the electronic, written exams, the Minister of Education stressed that the Government is committed to promoting the quality of education in Timor-Leste, as this is a priority in the 9th Constitutional Government’s Program and a fundamental element for national development. On the same occasion, Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão emphasised the importance of a transparent system for hiring employees and stated that the Government follows a clear and transparent path to select Timorese qualified to educate children and make them good citizens.

This electronic examination process represents a significant milestone, reflecting the joint efforts of the Government, the Ministry of Education, the Civil Service Commission, and civil society. It opens up new opportunities for teachers’ careers and demonstrates the Government’s commitment to the continuous improvement of the national education system.
