The Minister of State Administration, Tomás do Rosário Cabral, swore in Gregório da Cunha Saldanha “Mouris” as the new President of the Dili Municipal Authority on March 1st, 2024.
Gregório Saldanha was appointed by Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão at the proposal of the Minister of State Administration, by order no. 16/GPM/II/2024, of February 28th, succeeding Guilhermina F.S. Ribeiro, who had held the position since 2021.
During his inauguration speech, the new President of the Dili Municipal Authority acknowledged the challenges inherent in managing a complex city and highlighted the need for change.
Gregório Saldanha pledged to “work hard with all the employees of the Dili Municipal Authority to coordinate services with the authorities in the Administrative Posts, from Villages (Sucos) to Hamlets (Aldeias), in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental authorities, to find solutions to problems and promote rapid and solid national development, in a safe, beautiful and wellbeing capital”.
Members of the Government, the Dili Municipal Police Command, representatives of the diplomatic corps, development partners, and civil society were also at the swearing-in ceremony.
