The Minister for Foreign Affairs officially attended, on July 20, the Opening Ceremony of the 43rd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam, as Special Guest of Honor to the ASEAN Standing Committee.
Outside the ASEAN Meeting, Minister Zacarias da Costa held a meeting with his counterpart from Myanmar, Mr. U Nyan Uin, that showed his satisfaction for the willingness of Timor-Leste to accede full membership of ASEAN. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar informed that his country will not oppose Timor-Leste’s accession.
Minister Zacarias da Costa commented that: “Minister U Nyan Win accepted my invitation to visit Timor-Leste which will happen already this August. We agreed for both countries to work together in diplomatic actions at bilateral, regional and international levels”. At the meeting it was also agreed for both countries to open reciprocate embassies.
