Results of the 2010 Census

The first results should appear three months after the Census, meaning, in other words, that in October the preliminary results divulgation should start. As a rule, the treatment of this

kind of information takes a long time, but the Government intends to accelerate the process, as Emília Pires explains: “Normally, four months are needed to insert all the data in the machines, but because we want to know the results more quickly, to have an idea of the number of population that exists in Timor-Leste, and all that other data, we will employ 80 operators and they will insert the data in the machines. Therefore, we think that in October we may have preliminary results. In the middle of 2011 is when we will have the final report”

For the results to be the more correct as possible, the Minister of Finance appeals to the population to participate in this national exercise by not forgetting that the first day of the Census, which serves as reference for the subsequent days: “I ask to all of you who are in Timor-Leste, to participate in these 2010 Census, which will occur from the 11th of July and finish on the 25th of July. Don’t forget that the questions refer to the 11th of July. If the persons are not interview on that day, if they are interviewed on the 12th. 13th. 14th and so on, they will have to answer regarding where they were on the 11th.

Therefore, I ask to all of you to remember where you were on the 11th and to participate in the 2010 Census.”
