Prime Minister and Cuban Ambassador Strengthen Health Cooperation

On August 28th, 2023, Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão met with the Cuban Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Grisel Alina Aldama Innis, to discuss and strengthen bilateral cooperation, focusing on the health sector.

Cuba has been playing a fundamental role in supporting the training of Timorese doctors and building the capacity of the national health system by sending doctors and specialists to work in the country’s health centres.  Prime Minister and Cuban Ambassador Strengthen Health Cooperation

In addition to health sector programs, cooperation projects with the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Art and Culture and the National University of Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL) were also discussed, aiming to send Timorese students to study pedagogy and art in Cuba.

During this meeting, both the diplomat and the Head of Government also explored the possibility of establishing manufacturing facilities for medicines and medical equipment in Timor-Leste to strengthen the country’s health infrastructure and improve access to health care and medication for the population.
