On July 25th, 2023, the Ministry of Health partnered with the Guido Valadares National Hospital (HNGV) and the Timor-Leste World Health Organization (WHO) to organise an event at the HNGV. The objective was to promote blood donation and spread awareness about this year’s World Donor Day theme: “Give blood, give plasma, share life, share often.”
At the ceremony, Flávio Brandão, the Vice Minister for Operationalising Hospitals, emphasised the critical need for blood donation. He declared that it is a top priority for the Government to enhance the blood bank service and make it accessible throughout the entire country.
The WHO Representative in Timor-Leste WHO, Arvind Mathur, announced that the organisation will provide technical assistance to develop a comprehensive strategy for the national blood bank to enhance its services.
A special blood donation campaign was also held during the event to encourage even more people to participate and contribute to saving lives.
