New Post Office Building in Díli

The Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, inaugurated, on the 8th of June, the Timor-Leste Post Office Central Headquarters at Quintal Qui’ik.

“We still remember the inauguration, in April 2000, of the Timor postal service. It was a decisive step to secure our Post Office system at the National and International level, a necessary and important step for a recently independent Country”, remembered the Head of Government, in his speech, declaring that this is also a new and quite important step for the Country.

According to the Minister of Infra-structures, Pedro Lay, the complex intended to be the Timor-Leste Post Office Central Headquarters, has one thousand and two hundred square meters, in Quintal Qui’ik Village, Díli District. “It was the South Korean Government, through its International Cooperation Agency, that financed the building construction, which cost two million American dollars” informed Minister Pedro Lay.

Timor-Leste’s Main Postal Headquarters took ten months to be constructed and is equipped with a very sophisticated software system that follows the international postal service standards.

As well as the Government of South Korea, the Koika company also supported the construction of this new Main Postal Headquarters for Timor-Leste.
