National Strategic Development Plan presented in Alas Sub-District

The Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, together with the Secretary of State for Culture, Virgílio Smith, the Secretary of State for Electricity, Water and Urban Planning, Januário Pereira and the District Administrator of Manufahi, Filomeno Tilman, and remaining entourage, were greeted by the population of the Sub-District of Alas in Dotik.

Before the welcoming ceremony, the Head of the Government was dressed with the traditional customs by the elders. Then they headed to the residence Kaik Meik, where they were received by the queen of Kaik Meik for two minutes’ rest before the ornamentation rite with the sacred accessories. Finally, the Prime Minister occupied the portable chair.

Before the Head of the Executive’s speech, the Sub-District Administrator set out the geographical situation of Alas, which comprises six Sucos and 15 Villages.

The councillor also refered to the Referendum Package, praising the quality of certain projects, but also stating that others had to be renewed. Moreover, he used the occasion to appeal to the Prime Minister: “I demand the attention of H. Excellency for the necessity of building a bridge, in order to make the acess to the capital of Manufahi easier to the population, along with the necessity of infirmaries, electricity and roads that connect the Suco of Tutuluro to the District capital.”

During the session on the National Development Strategic Plan (NDSP), the Prime Minister referred to the basic infrastructures destined to the development of the people’s well-being. At the eighth celebration of the Independence, Xanana Gusmão compared the current status to a work where the wall being constructed already reached the eighth block, being now the time to pay more attention to the People’s needs, through the NDSP.

After the session, the population stated the necessity of installing Tourism centers to promote the transaction of local products. The Head of the Executive clarified that Tourism is connected with the conditions of the communication links and the airport.
