Turiscai People proclaims Xanana Gusmão as the “father of development”

This was the first time that the Prime Minister went to the Manu-fahi district, Turiscai sub-district, to consult on the National Strategic Plan (NSDP). The delegation was received by the Manu-fahi district Administrator, Filomeno Tilman, by the Turiscai sub-district Administrator, local authorities and according to the tradition, through the “sergala” and the traditional dance of “tebetai” and “dadolin”, performed by the people”.

As usual, before the consultation program, the sub-district administrator made a description of the geographic profile of the sub-district. Turiscai is composed of 8 sucos and 45 villages and the majority of the population are farmers that live from the coffee plantation and outer produce.

The Prime Minister then started explaining the program of the NSDP with a special focus on the basic infra-structures such as roads, bridges, drinking water, electricity, dams, telecommunications, port sand airports.

The population expressed their concern in relation to the fact that the region is isolated, the people lives without access to asphalt roads, electricity and fresh water, referring that even though Francisco Xavier do Amaral, who is from the region and the one that proclaimed independence, they don’t feel that their quality of live had increased. The Prime Minister pointed out the struggle that is being faced to take the people away from poverty and that from the 2011 to 2030 the people will stop living in poverty.

The population of the Turiscai sub-district considered the Prime-Minister the “father of the development”.

In Turiscai, the Prime-Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, was accompanied by the Minister of finance, Emília Pires and by the Secretary of State of Security, Francisco Guterres, in the continuous consultation about the NSDP that took place here on the 15th of May.
