Prime Minister in the Aileu Villa sub-district

On the third day of the PEDN socialization in Aileu district, the Prime Minister was received by the inhabitants, the district and sub-district administrators, chiefs of suco, primary and secondary school students and the community of Aileu Villa sub-district, Aileu district.

Before the Prime Minister initiated the PEDN socialization program, the referred sub-district administrator made a description of it: 11 sucos, 63 aldeias, 4.001 families with a total of 21.395 inhabitants, where 10.000 are men and 11.395 are women. The sub-distrito has a surface area of 227 Km2 and approximately 80% of the population of the district are farmers that live of rice cultivation and coffee plantation.

The Deputy Administrator for the Aileu district took the occasion and also made a description of his district: 4 sub-districts, namely, Aileu Vila sub-district, composed of 11 sucos, sub-district remexio by 7 sucos, laulara sub-district by 5 sucos. 135 aldeias make up the Aileu district and a total of 8.482 families. The district has a surface of 7.360 km2. Most of the Aileu district community are farmers and the remainder are small businessmen.

During the PEDN consultation program in the Aileu district, the population demanded the attention of the Prime Minister in regards to electricity, roads, drinking water among others, which are priorities for the community. The population agrees with the PEDN as long as it is accomplished.

On the other hand, the Prime Minister replied that the preoccupation over roads, bridges, electricity, dinking water, telecommunications, airport and port is a preoccupation of everybody, from Tutuala to Oecussi. These are the difficulties the country faces and the PEDN has the objective of responding to all of that and take the population, where 95% are farmers, away from poverty.

In this visit on the 14th May, the Prime-Minister was accompanied by the Minister for Infrastructures, Pedro Lay and the Commander-General of the PNTL, Longuinhos Monteiro.
