The Government of Timor-Leste extends condolences for the loss of Silvino Adolfo Morais
It was with deep sadness and dismay that the Government of Timor-Leste learned of the death of Silvino Adolfo Morais, Member of the National Parliament, on January 3rd, 2022, at the Guido Valadares Hospital, in Dili, at the age of 65.
Deputy Silvino Adolfo Morais was born on July 19th, 1956, in Atabae, Bobonaro Municipality.
In 1974, he joined the National Union of the Timorese Students (UNETIM – Portuguese acronym), participating directly in the fight against colonialism and, with the Indonesian invasion of Timor-Leste, in 1975, he went to the mountains, as a FALINTIL militia, and was assigned to the northern and southern regions as responsible for transporting ammunition.
In 1977, he became section commander of Intervention Company no. 4, in Cailaco. Two years later, he was captured by the Indonesian military.
From the early 1980s until 1999, he was a civil servant for the electricity services in Bobonaro.
After the referendum, on August 30th, 1999, he assumed various political positions in the FRETILIN party, namely the position as second vice-coordinator of the FRETILIN District Political Commission, in Bobonaro, between 2000 and 2006, the position of interim coordinator, between 2005 and 2010, and the post of FRETILIN district coordinator in Bobonaro, between 2010 and 2016 and, after re-election, between 2016 and 2021.
MP Silvino Adolfo Morais has been a member of the Bobonaro Municipal Advisory Council and a member of the FRETILIN Central Committee, representing the municipality of Bobonaro, from 2016 to date.
He was elected to the National Parliament in 2017 and re-elected in 2018, having been a member of Committee C of the National Parliament.
