Rice Distribution

Last Wednesday, during the national Strategic Development Plan (SDP) consultation with the communities of the Remexio sub-district, the Prime-Minister received a proposal presented by the local authorities, through the Suco Chief, for the establishment of a warehouse so they can store MTCI rice destined to be sold to the community of eight Sucos from this sub-district.

In response to this, the Head of the Government, accompanied by the Minister of Infrastructures, Pedro da Silva Lay, by the Secretary of State of Public Works, Domingos Caeiro, and by the district and sub-district Administrators, informed that the Government recognizes the deficiency in the MTCI (brand) rice distribution system.

The Prime-Minister went further on in considering that the system itself was favourable to monopoly conditions by the merchants among the community. The Head of Government ensured that in the future a distribution mechanism will exist that may satisfy the will of the people, as has been already implemented in three districts: Lautém, Baucau and Viqueque.
