Government begins distribution of humanitarian aid to university students in need

The 8th Constitutional Government, today, March 21st, 2021, began a campaign to distribute humanitarian aid to students of higher education institutions, who are displaced from their municipalities and who are prevented from leaving Dili, due to the heath fence imposed in this municipality.

During the day, food support was delivered to students from Dili Institute of Technology (DIT), Institute of Business (IOB), University of Peace (UNPAZ) and Cristal Superior Institute (ISC), and during the next week, the 8th Constitutional Government, through the Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion, will continue to distribute humanitarian aid to students from other public and private higher education institutions.

The humanitarian aid delivery ceremonies were chaired by Vice Prime Minister and Minister for Social Solidarity and Inclusion, Armanda Berta dos Santos, and had the participation of the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Culture, Longuinhos dos Santos, of the Vice Minister of Social Solidarity and Inclusion,  Signi Chandrawati Verdial, and the Vice Minister of State Administration, Lino de Jesus Torrezão.

Under this support, each student, previously registered by the Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion and Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Culture, will receive a bag of rice.

The Vice Prime Minister stated that “the Government is carrying out this intervention to help the students facing a difficult situation”, “because during the health fence in Dili, they are unable to receive support from their families”. On this first day “support was distributed to 373 students from DIT, 726 from IOB, 1510 from UNPAZ and 84 from ISC” and, during the week, help will be distributed to other students in need.
