Aliambata Gas Seep Project Inauguration

The Secretary of State for Electricity, Water and Urbanization (SEWU), Januário Pereira, accompanied by the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Arborculture (SSAA), Marcos da Cruz, Secretary of State for Energy Policy (SSEP), Avelino Coelho, Secretary of State for Environment and Reforestation (SEEF), Abílio Lima and Pedro Costa, President of Commission G for Infrastructure issues, of the National Parliament, inaugurated last week the first faze of the Aliambata Gas Seep Project “20 KV Distribution Line System”, in Afaloicai suco, Uatolari Sub-district, Viqueque District.

The Aliambata Gas Seep Project, initiated in September of last year and worth $1.145.388 dollars, was undertaken in cooperation with the World Bank. Its purpose is to facilitate the access of electricity to the populations in rural areas, according to the Program of the Government, led by Prime-Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão.

The inauguration of the Aliambata Gas Seep Project is the first step to benefit the Uatolari population, which face an electricity supply problem, with just one generator of 400 KVA capacity, equivalent to 320KW of its transmission line, informed the SEWU, Januário Pereira.

The SEWU added that the Aliambata Gas Seep Project includes a generator that may supply more than 500 families with electricity and cover the whole Sub-District of Uatolari, although the sucos of Matahoi, Iralere, Lugasa, Bailakutara and Nuno Malau are yet to be covered.

“Even so, as a server of the people and the nation, as is our obligation, we are currently mobilizing technicians to measure and establish connection lines so that the resident population may access electricity as well as the Uatulori village”.
