The President of the Republic Opens Díli International Dialogue with a message of Peace, Justice and Solidarity

In the opening of the first day of “Díli International Dialogue” President José Ramos-Horta took the opportunity to address more than 45 delegations on the current state of the world.

President Ramos-Horta recalled the importance of the work so far undertaken by many governments since independence and with pride he recalled “the gesture of soldiarity demonstrated by the Timorese people, giving as example the gesture of support given to Indonesia at the time of earthquake and tsunami.

Continuing to touch on solidarity as the main theme, José Ramos-Horta asked the main donors or all others to continue to provide support for Timor-Leste “guided by their heart”. Adding to the statements of Prime Minister, José Ramos-Horta also recalled that many millions have been spent in many countries in support of development, but sometimes the results are difficult to evaluate. President Ramos-Horta sees Peace as one of the most effective means to develop a country and to help the Fragile States to be free from difficult situations.

José Ramos-Horta stressed that whilst the world is facing difficulties in terms of public finance, Timor-Leste is immune from it.

Relationship with Indonesia and the maturity of the Timorese people, visible in the recent case of Maternus Bere, were highlighted with a sense of pride by President Ramos-Horta in His 45 minutes speech and he asked the international community to “let the Timorese deal with Justice on it’s own” and to refrain from “blind condemnation of those who appear to be guilty”.
