Dili International Dialogue dealing with the “Peace Building and State Building” started on Friday the 9th of April in the capital of Timor-Leste with representatives of the countries and organizations clearly commitment showing their commitment towards the theme.
Following the opening remarks by the Minister of Finance and introductory remarks by the two co-chairs of the event, the Minister of Planning of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Olivier Kamitatu and Bella Bird, representative of United Kingdom, the President of Timor-Leste, José Ramos-Horta, made his speech on the theme of the day, “Peace Building and State Building”.
A discussion panel made up of representatives form Timor-Leste, Liberia, South Sudan, the Republic of Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, and Central African Republic followed up with sharing of experiences. Their discussion identified emerging needs and the challenges faced by their countries, which are considered to be fragile in tackling stability and development.
In the conclusion of the day’s work, it was announced that a permanent fórum of “g7” will be created to ensure follow-up work is undertaken and to prepare the next meeting of Fragile States and the Development Partners, scheduled for 2011 in Seoul.
