The Deputy Minister for Strategic Health Development, Bonifácio Maukoli dos Reis and the Acting Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Timor-Leste, Lei Zhen, signed a protocol of cooperation in the area of health, on the 27th of May 2019, at Palácio das Cinzas, in Caicoli, Dili.
The Deputy Minister said that “the Chinese Medical Brigade team has nine medical specialists, a translator and a cook to support us in tertiary care at the Guido Valadares National Hospital (HNGV). The Chinese Embassy also offered medicines and ambulances”.
Bonifácio Maukoli dos Reis underlined that these doctors came to Timor-Leste with the objective of providing adequate health support to the population and in collaboration with the Timorese doctors.
“In this mission, the Chinese state will also give training to our doctors so that when we finish the cooperation, we can ensure adequate care for our people”, he said.
The ceremony was attended by the Director General for Bilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Isílio Coelho, Directors of the Ministry of Health, the representative of the World Health Organization, Rajesh Pandav and the team of the Chinese Medical Brigade.
