The Secretary of State for the Environment (SEA), Demetrio de Amaral de Carvalho, officially handed over 2,000 books on the protection of dugongos to the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports (MEJD), Dulce de Jesus Soares.
The Minister thanked the Secretary of State for the Environment for interministerial cooperation, which allowed the publication of these books, considered “useful for the learning process”.
“The book is important, but you can not just keep it in the school library. It should be used in accordance with its functions as a reference for students to read, interpret and have knowledge of how to protect marine resources, “said the minister.
The Secretary of State explained that this book sensitizes students to the protection of sea grasses and dugongs, threatened around the world.
“Timor-Leste is an excellent habitat for dugongs, so it is your effort to create a society that protects the environment, not only in a biodiversity perspective, but also to attract tourists, which contributes to the development of the economy “.
The general and national directors of the two institutions and directors of the primary and secondary schools in Dili were present at the ceremony.
