Meeting of the Council of Ministers of August 1st, 2018
The Council of Ministers met at the Government Palace in Dili and approved a Government Resolution proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of a donation to the Republic of Indonesia of USD $ 750,000.00 (seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars) as a result of the 6.4-magnitude earthquake on the island of Lombok, which has caused several casualties as well as hundreds of houses destroyed and forced thousands of people to leave their homes. In view of the seriousness of the situation and the ties between the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and the Republic of Indonesia, the Government thus expresses its solidarity with the Indonesian people and supports the response to the needs of the population due to the destruction.
The Government also approved the proposal by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation for a grant to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to support the response to the destruction caused by the collapse of a hydroelectric dam in Attapeu Province. Considering the ties between the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, as well as the gravity of the situation that has led to several deaths, missing persons and hundreds of displaced families, Timor-Leste expresses its solidarity with the people of Laos with the donation of USD $750,000.00 (seven hundred and fifty thousand US dollars) for humanitarian assistance to the affected population.
