Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of July 20th, 2018

The Council of Ministers met at the Government Palace in Dili and approved the proposal presented by the Minister for Legislative Reform and Parliamentary Affairs Fidelis Magalhães of the Initial Financing Agreement between the Millennium Development Corporation and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, which aims to provide funds for the creation of a team that will be responsible for identifying the economic sectors to be developed and integrated into the Millennium Challenge Compact program. The team will have between 18 and 24 months to develop the program to improve economic growth and reduce poverty in Timor-Leste, to be implemented between 2020 and 2025.

The Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, presented the proposal, approved by the Council of Ministers, regarding the nomination of Sérgio Hornai as candidate for the post of Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (CAC). The National Parliament will now choose between Sérgio Hornai and the current Commissioner, Adérito Tilman, proposed by the Government at the Council of Ministers Meeting of July 13, 2018.

The Government approved the proposal for a Budget Maximum for 2018 presented by the Acting Minister of Finance, Sara Lobo Brites, with a value of US $1.218 million. The approved maximum considers the expenditure of the new governance structure, debts and commitments as well as additional budget for the Infrastructure Fund.

The Council of Ministers approved the VIII Constitutional Government Program, after analyzing the changes suggested by the various ministries. The VIII Government Program aims to reflect the aspirations of the Timorese people and the priority measures for sustainable development, considering the Strategic Development Plan 2011-2030, contributing to transform Timor-Leste into a medium-high income country where the population lives safe and healthy, educated and prosperous. The document is presented to the National Parliament on July 20. ENDS
