Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of January 25th, 2018
The Government met in the Government Palace, in Dili, to hold an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers and approved, with a few amendments, the proposed Decree-Law that establishes the Organic Statute of Combatants of National Liberation Council, presented by the Secretary of State for Veterans, André da Costa Belo (L4). The diploma aims to define the structure, objectives and competencies of that Government consultation body for matters related to the defense of the veterans’ interests and others regarding the National Liberation Combatants, under the National Liberation Combatants Statute in force since 2011.
The Council of Ministers approved the Resolution presented by the Secretary of State for the Council of Ministers and Media, Matias Boavida, who appoints Gil da Costa as Chairman of the Timor-Leste Radio and Television Board of Directors, Public Company (RTTL, EP ), replacing current President Milena Soares Abrantes, who will terminate her duties on January 28, 2018, after a term of four years.
Finally, a proposal was approved to amend Decree-Law no. 3/2015, dated January 14th, and Decree-Law no. 4/2015, of January 14th, that approve the Pre-School Education and the First and Second Cycle of Basic Education Curricula presented by the Minister of Education and Culture, Fernando Hanjam, and the Vice-Minister of Education and Culture, Lurdes Maria Bessa. The proposed amendments aimed at, in harmony with the Constitution and with the Education Law in force: to reaffirm clearly the official languages of Timor-Leste as Languages of the National Educational System and National Cultural Heritage; change the pre-school workload; and proceed to reallocate the hourly load devoted to the linguistic development of the Tetum Language and the Portuguese Language, the latter assuming the role of predominant language of instruction.
