Message of Solidarity to Portugal

In the wake of the destruction and loss of life caused by the forest fires in northern Portugal the Government of Timor-Leste sends a message of solidarity to the Government of the Republic of Portugal and to the Portuguese people.

Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, H.E. Dr. Rui Maria de Araújo, said today “the loss of life is absolutely tragic” and assured that “the thoughts and prayers of the people of Timor-Leste are with our sisters and brothers in Portugal.”

The Government of Timor-Leste offers condolences to the family and friends of those lost in the fires and sends a message of support to President H.E. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Prime Minister H.E. António Luís Santos da Costa at this difficult time. It also recognizes the work done by fire fighters and other first responders in extraordinarily difficult conditions.ENDS
