The Acting Minister of Justice and Secretary of State for Land and Property, Jaime Xavier Lopes, opened the commemoration of the Third Anniversary of the Scientific Police for Criminal Investigation (SPCI), where the theme “The SPCI approaches the community through the path of Justice” was discussed. This ceremony was held on May 15th, 2017, in the Municipality of Baucau.
Jaime Xavier Lopes said that this year the commemoration of the anniversary took place in Baucau, to share information about the performance the SPCI’s duties, namely, the investigation of homicide cases and forging documents.
The Secretary of State explained that the SPCI has a very different job from the other police services because they deal with criminal cases, which are under investigation secrecy and are not in the public domain. He asked all Timorese to encourage the SPCI to carry out its functions with quality, in accordance with the law, solving crimes and handing the culprits to justice.
The SPCI Director, Vicente Fernandes Brito, said that holding the anniversary in Baucau, underlined the national scope of the activity of the SPCI as defined by law.
The President of Baucau Municipal Authority, António Guterres, asked the community leaders who participated to share the information presented to others who did not attend the event, in order to make the work of the SPCI more widely known.
