Idul Fitri celebrations in an environment of tolerance and respect
The Government extends its congratulations and solidarity to the Muslim community of Timor-Leste as they celebrate Idul Fitri and join in prayer to mark the end of the fasting of Ramadan. This time represents a celebration of family and forgiveness amongst Muslim people throughout our region and around the globe.
In Timor-Leste it is an opportunity for all to be reminded of the value of peace, tolerance and solidarity.
The holiday of Idul Fitri is recognized in Timor-Leste law passed in 2005 and in January this year the Government advised that the National Holiday of Idul Fitri would occur on the 7th of July. A grant day-off was given to all Government workers on the 6th of July to allow time for preparations and travel undertaken for family reunions.
The people of Timor-Leste continue to embrace the variety of traditions, culture and religions that characterize the fabric our nation and recognize the universal values of forgiveness, friendship, tolerance and peace.
