Meeting of the Council of Ministers of December 29th, 2015
The Council of Ministers met this Tuesday, December 29th, 2015, in the meeting room of the Council of Ministers, at the Government Palace in Dili, and adopted a Government Resolution that creates the Francisco Xavier do Amaral Botanical Gardens.
Given the objectives and strategies set out in the Strategic Development Plan 2011-2030, in the Program of the Sixth Constitutional Government and in the National Strategy for Biodiversity regarding the protection of the environment and conservation of biodiversity, the Council of Ministers approved the creation of the Francisco Xavier do Amaral Botanical Gardens, in the village of Ai Merahun, Suco of Açumau, Administrative Post of Remexio, in the Municipality of Aileu.
The Botanical Gardens will be instituted and overseen by a monitoring setting-up committee that will, firstly, define the action plan, the management mechanisms and the internal regulations. The gardens, with 28 hectares, will have as main objectives: the study and scientific research of the existing fauna, the creation of seeds and germplasm banks, the conservation of native and exotic plant species’ biodiversity, especially those threatened or endangered, combating the extinction of plant species, raising public awareness for the value of biological diversity and the threats to which it is subject, the development of concrete actions for the benefit of the environment, among others.
