Prime Minister on working visit to Equatorial Guinea

Several members of the Government of Equatorial Guinea, including the Prime Minister, Vicente Ehate Tomi, received the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, at the airport of Malabo, on June 1st.

This four day’ work visit is included on a tour that the Timorese Head of Government is making to several countries, and it occurs about one and a half months before the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the CPLP (Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries), which will occur in Dili, on July 23rd.

On the second day of the visit, the Prime Minister was invited to assist a meeting of the Eminent Persons Group from the ACP countries (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific) which opening session counted with an intervention from the President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.

After the meeting, in a private room at the Conference Centre where the event took place, the Prime Minister was received by the President of Equatorial Guinea. At this meeting, Xanana Gusmão delivered a letter that the President Taur Matan Ruak addressed to the President of Equatorial Guinea, with the invitation for the Dili Summit in which Timor-Leste will assume the Rotational Presidency of the CPLP. At this meeting, both leaders spoke about cooperation opportunities, as well as about the values and principles of the CPLP. They even shared some ideas about the development plans of both countries, noticing common challenges and opportunities, namely on the energy sector

On June 3rd, the Prime Minister was received by his homologous – who, despite not being the Head of Government, has a preponderant role in inter-ministerial articulation.

On the eve of finishing this work visit, the Prime Minister was present at the inauguration of a frigate – the first being entirely built in Equatorial Guinea. The ceremony was headed by the Head of State and Government, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
