The Ministry of Tourism, through the State Secretariat for Art and Culture, organized, last September 27th, a general cleaning activity in Dili, under the commemoration of the World Tourism Day, with the participation of public servants and students.

The cleaning started in the area of Bidau Santana and ended in the area of the MoFAC, aiming to promote Dili as a clean and peaceful city.

The Secretary of State for Art and Culture, Maria Isabel Ximenes, stated, “the celebration of this year’s world tourism day has as main topic ‘Potable Water and Tourism’, based on the resolution issued by the General Assembly of the United Nations.”

Maria Isabel Ximenes further added “potable water, apart from being very important for human survival, still has a vital importance on tourism’s sector. We shall use it carefully and responsibly. Without the water, tourism sector cannot develop itself”.

The Ministry of Tourism and the State Secretariat for Art and Culture will continue striving to improve service quality in the area of tourism and culture, and further measures will be adopted in order to develop tourism in Timor-Leste.

Some students from Dili Institute of Tourism (DIT) who took part on the general cleaning activity, thanked the Ministry of Tourism for being able to actively participate in the event. According to the students, the action will alert the community for the need to maintaining the environment clean.
