Swearing in of the V Constitutional Government

The President swore, on the 8th of August, the V Constitutional Government at a ceremony at the Noble Palace in Lahane, Dili.

The Prime Minister of the Fifth Constitutional Government, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, in his inauguration speech, acknowledged, "the real wealth of our nation is our people and therefore maximizing the health, education, culture and the overall quality of life of the Timorese, is crucial to build a just and progressive nation. The V Constitutional Government will focus on improving the delivery of services in two key areas, which are health and education".

Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão believes that the V Constitutional Government 's mission is to ensure the continued development of the country, and said: "My government is committed to be the engine of this progress with an enormous sense of responsibility, dedication, honesty, persistence and courage. We expect, however, the participation and cooperation of all Timorese citizens in this process." The Prime Minister made ​​a special appeal to young people to "embrace this new struggle to develop the country and strengthen peace and democratic values ​​in our society".

Present at the inauguration of the Fifth Constitutional Government, were the President of the Republic, Taur Matan Ruak, the President of the National Parliament, Vicente Guterres, the former President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, the Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Timor-Leste, Finn Rieske Nielsen, the UNPOL Commissioner, Luis Carrilho, the Prosecutor General, Ana Pessoa Pinto, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Lere Anan Timur, the PNTL Commissioner Longuinhos Monteiro, the Bishop of Dili, Dom Alberto Ricardo da Silva, the diplomatic corps and representatives of political parties.
