Inauguration of Timor-Leste’s electrification

The President José Ramos-Horta, at 00:00 on November 28, 2011, inaugurated the first phase of the Hera Power Station and the transmission line operation in the North Coast of Timor-Leste.

The inauguration ceremony began with the singing of National Anthem “Fatherland, Fatherland”, followed by a speech by the President of the Republic and the demonstration of a documentary film, ending with the loading of the power button of the Power Station.

“Today, we’re all standing here to inaugurate the first phase of the Hera Power Station that starts a process of development, modernization, in Timor-Leste and can now provide twenty-four hours electricity to the People of the northern part of the country”, said José Ramos-Horta.

The President added that ” the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão  should have been here with us , but due to a health treatment in Singapore,  he cannot be present. Nevertheless, I offer my congratulations to the Prime Minister, to the Government, to the Minister for Infrastructure, the Secretary of State for Electricity, Water and Urbanization and the Timorese and international engineers because it was with their efforts that we have succeeded in proceeding with this inauguration”.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, President of the National Parliament, Fernando Lasama de Araújo, President of the Court of Appeal, Claúdio Ximenes, the Vice Prime Minister, José Luís Guterres, members of the National Parliament, Government members, the Vicar-General of the Diocese of Dili, Apolinário Guterres, diplomatic representatives and other guests.
